Masked Swallow Tail Angelfish (Genicanthus semifasciatus)
The Masked Swallowtail Angelfish, also known as the Japanese Angelfish, are similar to those of the same genus and display signs of sexual dimorphism.
Male Masked Swallowtails’ faces have a bright yellow-orange coloring that follows horizontally down their sides. They also have small black vertical stripes that run down their bodies all the way down to the caudal peduncle.
Female Masked Swallowtails, on the other hand, have a creamy white color around their chests that gradually shifts to a yellow along the top of the dorsal fin. They also have a striking black band over their eyes and at the edge of their caudal fins.
An environment suitable for a Masked Swallowtail to thrive is a 125 gallon aquarium or larger for room to swim and space for hiding. Unlike most angelfish, the Masked Swallowtail is a good reef dweller and will not nip at stony and soft corals (sessile invertebrates).
Diet
The diet of a Masked Swallowtail should include: meaty foods, enriched mysis, shrimp, brine shrimp, supplemental algae, and high-quality angelfish preparations.
