Naso Tang (Naso lituratus)
The Naso Tang, also known as the Orange spine Unicornfish, shift colors with maturation. Juvenile Naso Tang from Hawaii is gray with a bright blue stripe that lines the dorsal fin and an orange line against the anal fin.
Once matured, the Naso Tang’s body transforms and the juvenile striping is complemented with an additional color. The face is the part that undergoes the most change. A black, thin mask is outlined with bright yellow and the lips change from a light orange to a reddish-orange. Their tails take on the shape of a lyre with a vertical yellow bar towards the caudal tail and their slightly flared dorsal fin is colored yellow as well.
It is best to house the Naso Tang in a 180 gallon or larger aquarium to provide enough room for swimming and places to hide. Be sure to keep a tight-fitted lid to avoid escaping. Unlike other tangs, the Naso Tang can have an aggressive nature towards their own species but they are rather peaceful around fish.
Diet
Although tangs will eat meaty foods, they prefer marine based seaweed and algae which help boosts their immune system, reduce aggression, and improve overall health. To feed them, tie dried seaweed to a rock or use a veggie clip, and feed at least 3 times per week.
