Spotbreast Angelfish (Genicanthus melanospilos)
The Swallowtail Angelfish with its brightly colored scales and flared tail, the swallowtail, also known as the Spottedtail Angelfish, is one of the few of its genus to exhibit sexual dimorphism.
Male swallowtails are patterned with a series of red stripes across their pale bodies and their tails are forked with yellow and blue edges. Female swallowtails, on the other hand, are patterned with yellow on the dorsal fin, light blue on the ventral fin, and marine blue highlighted by a blue-black edge on the caudal fin.
For a Swallowtail Angelfish to thrive, it is recommended to house them in a 125 gallon tank or larger with many hiding places and live rocks for grazing. Unlike most angelfish, the Swallowtail make great reef dwellers and will not nip at stony and soft corals (sessile invertebrates). These creatures are also fairly peaceful and may be kept as a mated pair or in schools.
Diet
The diet of a Swallowtail Angelfish should include: spirulina, marine algae, high-quality angelfish preparations, and finely shaved mysis or frozen shrimp.
